Program Outcomes - Background
Nurses for Newborns has long been a leader in the technology field. Our organization has used a computerized record database system for nearly two decades and has been collecting data for outcome measurement since its inception. To our knowledge, we are the only non-profit, nurse home-visiting agency in the country that utilizes a proprietary database system to store all case and visit related data that is collected, from a client's initial referral to their termination with the agency.
 |
All of our nurses are using laptops in the home and are collecting data onsite. This system allows our highly skilled nurses to store information from medical assessments, teach parenting skills to caregivers, link clients with vital community resources, measure risk factors and outcomes, and much more. All data stored during the home visit is later transferred, simply and securely over the internet to the main office, reducing costs and allowing us to serve both an urban population as well as a rural population more effectively. Our database performs routine data validation checks (emailing results to nurses and their supervisors), stores immunization data and calculates the infant's status, generates annual outcome data and more. We also have an integrated web-based reporting system allowing supervisors and management staff to have instant access to real-time data anywhere they have access to the Internet. |
We are certain that embracing technology has allowed the organization to grow while keeping costs at a minimum. In FY12 alone, our agency conducted over 17,000 visits to almost 3,300 families in two states. We are able to do all of this while keeping our cost to serve the average family for one year to around $1,000.
We have a long history of success, demonstrated both by baby stories and the power of our database software to generate sophisticated statistics. Below you will find a sample of the outcomes and risk factors that we collect and measure. Our database itself has received national attention with presentations in Boston, San Diego and Denver...
